About the Festival Jazz in the Meadows is the largest student jazz festival in the Midwest, with over 80 ensembles performing throughout the day. Students of all levels are inspired by professional musicians, enlightened by our clinics, jam sessions, and encouraged to take their playing to the next level. Students are encouraged to attend Noontime and Grand Finale Concerts, featuring incredible artists and ensembles from across the country. This jazz festival has earned its distinction through excellent adjudicators and clinicians, and by showcasing the best student ensembles heard throughout the day at the Grand Finale Concert alongside the guest artist. 8:00AM-5:30PM Festival: School Performances, Noon Concert, Masterclasses, Jam Sessions 5:30PM Grand Finale Concert and Headliner Student Performances Jazz Bands and Combos from schools large and small perform in front of an audience as well as expert adjudicators and clinicians, who are world-class professional musicians, university professors and educators that share their expertise with each group during a short clinic following its performance. Jam Sessions Students will have the opportunity to mingle with other student jazz musicians and jump in on open Jam Sessions. This is an excellent opportunity for students to further their understanding of jazz and soloing. These sessions will be coached by a clinician to guide, support, and provide feedback to participating students. Masterclasses *NEW THIS YEAR* Members of the 2023 Grammy-Winning Generation Gap Jazz Orchestra will be leading masterclasses at a set time during the festival where all students/directors will be able to attend. We are incredibly excited to have some of the best jazz musicians and educators from across the country willing and interested in teaching the next generation of jazz musicians here at JITM.
